Mind/Body

As I journey deeper into the realm of physical, spiritual, and ancestral healing, the mind body connection becomes even more clear. When the mind is disrupted, the body suffers. When the body is disrupted, the mind suffers. This is an understanding that is built-in to ancient Ayurvedic philosophy, but has been lost in the western medical approach of compartmentalizing aspects of human experience. The more conversations I have with friends and clients, the more I can see the necessity of marrying healing physical actions and lifestyle changes with mental reprogramming.

However, if we are not treating out bodies with respect, it can be challenging to have the strength and clarity to shift our consciousness and pull ourselves out of negative thought loops. We may not have the endurance to access deep emotional reservoirs that are holding us back from releasing traumatic memories. We may feel too tired, or too lost in our day to day survival to do the digging necessary to heal emotional blocks. Conversely, when we are stuck in negative self-talk and traumatic self-fulfilling prophecies, we do not have the ability to make the healthy changes to our diet or daily living that will lead us to wellness. It is a chicken and the egg scenario, a paradoxical loop. We cannot change our minds because we cannot change our diets, and we shift our diet because we cannot shift our mind.

We become stuck.

Until, something "unsticks" us.

For many people, the wake up call comes as a disease, chronic illness, or near-death experience. For some, it comes as an abusive relationship, a deep depression, or an unhappy marriage. But, do we have to bring ourselves to the brink of complete destruction in order to change our ways? Maybe...but maybe not.

As Spiritual beings, we can make a different choice in every moment. We can decide that we are going to make a different decision today, that will lead us towards a healthier and happier tomorrow. We can find gratitude for the opportunity to learn, to clear karma, and to settle our debts with creation.
